Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Our larger church affiliation encompasses the world.

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. We welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us. Their website will give you more information about causes, events, mission and happenings. Please feel free to learn more at Disciples.org

Missions & Causes

“And He (Jesus) said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’”  Mark 16:15 NKJV

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”   Hebrews 13:15-16 NIV

At West Lake Christian Church, we take Christ’s words seriously.  We believe that sharing the life saving good news of Jesus Christ is not an option, but is a command from God to further His kingdom here on earth.  Through the various missions of our church and our church connections, we share within our community and beyond through prayer, our time, our talents and our financial support.

Below is a list of some of the ways we participate in furthering this mission.  Occasionally we will highlight one or more of these great causes.

Operation Christmas Child

“For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”  Psalm 100:5 NIV

West Lake Christian Church is pleased to announce we are beginning a new GriefShare Ministry in our church.  Grief is a unique and overwhelming feeling that occurs after losing a loved one.  It is intense emotional suffering that starts the “ball of emotion” spinning.  Grief is inevitable when a loved one is lost, and we all grieve differently when that occurs. Some may be able to cope with the grief and work through it on their own, but most of us cannot do this on our own.  The GriefShare Ministry is a Bible-based program that reaches out to those grieving the loss of a loved one.  WLCC will be presenting a couple of programs soon:

Surviving the Holidays

This is a one-night, two-hour program that is designed to help the bereaved through an often-difficult holiday season.  This program offers:

  • How to deal with the many emotions you’ll face during the holidays
  • What to do about traditions and other coming changes
  • Helpful tips for surviving social events
  • How to discover hope for your future

We will watch a 40-minute video that gives us practical holiday survival tips and includes real-life stories of people who have been down this path.  Then we will have a group discussion and share how grief is affecting each of us (Don’t worry … there is no pressure for you say anything.  This portion is optional, and we wish you to feel comfortable).  Each participant will receive their own, personal copy of the GriefShare “Holiday Survival Guide”.

This program will be presented on Wednesday, November 17, 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at the West Lake Christian Church (936 Hwy “O”, Laurie, MO).  An anonymous donation has been made by one of our church members, so there is no cost for you to attend!

If you are interested in attending, please notify the church office at (573) 374-0647 so we can get you registered.  If you have any questions about this program, you may call Jim Braswell at (816) 289-5159.

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!

GriefShare:  Your Journey from Mourning to Joy

Also, we will be offering an intense 13-week grief program at our church, beginning in mid-to-late January.  More info will be added to this site soon!
